We have good news and bad news. Good News we will be meeting at Melville on the 14th Jan 2012 at the 4th Street Melville Cafe at 13h00 for 13h30 for a plenary session for our first launch event called Diner 48. To RSVP please send me confirmation via email to ndabafundi@gmail.com or diner48@gmail.com. The topic to be covered will be ‘the Makings of the African Lesbian” where African lesbians are invited to sign their own cheques by
· defining who they are
· who they will like to be
· how do they plan to get there.
Who should be on the talkshow: We need seven outspoken individuals who will be able to tell their stories, what they wish to see happening.
· It could be a little girl who is sent away by a Christian family cos she is a lesbian or a younger woman forced into a marriage by her family. · It could be an NGO rep who intervenes where there are problems,
· An activist who stands alone with a placard to tell her story .
· It could be a woman whose family does not know that she is a lesbian.
· It could be a lesbian who is proud to be one
· An older heterosexual lesbian who is aware that she can be a lesbian but way too old to live freely
· A lesbian who feels that she is a butch lesbian bullying all the way into her being.
What is on discussion during plenary:
· What questions to ask (the convener will have all questions at hand during the talkshow)
· Is it necessary to do it at my house as initially planned , any volunteers for the following shows
· Table décor? Colors
· Who will handle the events logistics-[ Formal Invitation( graphic designer), ensure RSVP smooth running of event]
· What is the dress code
· Do we have the dinning theme
· What time are they expected, do we need the red carpet
· Do we need a photographer
· Table décor
· Videographer requirements ( Timeslot. How long. When do we break if necessary)
· Dietary Requirements
· Expectation for Scribbler to profile all guests
· Type of music to be played
· Is this doable on the proposed date
· When is the formal launch for Dinner 4 8.
· Number of volunteers, their roles.
What do you bring: Notepad , your profile with the following responses
- your own story. Have u ever realized how difficult it is to answer that question about
- who are you?
- what makes you tick?
- why do you want us to know about you,
- what makes you happy?
- what will u like to see changing if u were to change the world for one day.
- how has your sexuality enable or disempower you?
- And we can follow up later on: whre do you buy your clothes, perfumes, artificants, music etc.....
We still need volunteers, a lot of them. Until then this is a pie in the sky.
